I'm going to be showing you how to make this super easy zip up pouch. Depending on how large you make it, it can be a laptop pouch, makeup bag, etc. I used this to keep all my wires that's been laying around in my drawer.
So you're going to need 4 fabrics. 2 of the fabric you want on the outside, 2 fabrics for the lining, and a zipper. And of course, your sewing machine+ sewing essentials. I have a zipper that's 7.5 inches long, so my width is going to be about 8 inches wide. (I made sure to make it slightly bigger just in case, you can trim the excess once you've sewn) and depending on how big you want you're pouch to be, you can make the length larger or smaller. I made mine 9.5 inches long.
You're going to be using a zipper foot as we are working with a zipper.
So step one, attach the wrong side of the zipper onto the good side of the fabric. Here I'm just using tape instead of pins to secure it in place. Sew straight.
You're going to attach the other fabric to the other side of the zipper, so it looks exactly the same as the other side.
when you see the RIGHT side of the zipper, it should look something like this, so the fabric's raw edge is folded and sewn onto the zipper.
Do the same with the lining. Sew the lining pieces ontop of the wrong side of the patterned fabric.
Next, split your fabric so that the 2 pattererned fabrics are on the right side, and the 2 lining fabrics are on the left side. Match up the 2 sides together, making sure the zippers match on each side and pin those two together. Then, sew all the way around the raw edges. make sure to leave an opening large enough to fit your hand through on one of the sides, so that you can flip it inside out.
When sewing all the way around, make sure you're using the regular presser foot.
Once you've flipped your bag out so that the lining is on the inside, and you're patterened fabric is showing, you should end up with something like this! Happy Sewing :)
